Public Holidays

Indonesia observes about a dozen public holidays throughout the year, including several religious celebrations. The most notable of these are Muslim holidays such as Idul Fitri (Eid) and Idul Adha, Imlek (Lunar New Year), and Nyepi (Hindu Day of Silence). While Idul Fitri is officially a two-day holiday, the entire week is affected, with schools and many businesses closing to allow employees to take part in mudik, the tradition of people returning to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with loved ones.
