Singapore and Malaysia may be traditional destinations for medical care among Indonesia’s expatriate community, but Jakarta’s healthcare industry has grown to include international-standard medical facilities.

From gated townhouses and landed homes to high-rise apartments, Jakarta offers a multitude of residential options for families of all sizes. All JIS campuses are situated a walking distance or a quick car ride from neighborhoods that have long been a popular choice among expatriates, such as Pondok Indah, Cipete, and Kemang (Cilandak campus and Pondok Indah Elementary), as well as Senopati, Kuningan, Senayan, and Sudirman (Pattimura Elementary).

Jakarta’s transportation system has improved in recent years, with the introduction of the MRT, LRT, and TransJakarta busway providing more options for navigating the city. They mostly connect the city’s main business and residential districts, offering a reliable alternative during peak traffic hours.

With more families in Jakarta choosing to welcome pets into their homes, the city’s pet care services have grown to meet rising demand. From grooming salons and pet-friendly cafés to well-equipped veterinary clinics and hospitals, there are growing options for both everyday care and medical needs. 

Jakarta is often described as a city of malls, where it’s not uncommon to find multiple shopping centers situated within walking distance from one another. On weekends and public holidays, these modern lifestyle hubs are filled with families looking not just to shop, but to enjoy the wide food selection, indoor play areas, and a welcome reprieve from the city’s heat.

Indonesia observes about a dozen public holidays throughout the year, including several religious celebrations. The most notable of these are Muslim holidays such as Idul Fitri (Eid) and Idul Adha, Imlek (Lunar New Year), and Nyepi (Hindu Day of Silence). While Idul Fitri is officially a two-day holiday, the entire week is affected, with schools and many businesses closing to allow employees to take part in mudik, the tradition of people returning to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with loved ones.
